Frequently Asked Questions
-
Since I’m buying a License, can we charge admission or Do I need a license even if we don’t charge admission?
A license is required for all public performances regardless of whether admission is charged or not. You cannot require an admission charge, but if you need to ticket the event for seating capacity purposes, you may create a ‘suggested donation’ ticket. See other ways to cover costs or generate revenue under “Ways to use a Movie Night to raise funds for ministry:”
-
Can we use clips from the film during our service and/or can we show clips on our website or on service physical media (such as DVD)?
You may use clips from the film during your church service in the context of teaching or a sermon (including if you stream your service). However, if you wish to use them on your website or in social media, they should only be in conjunction with the promotion of your Movie Event or a church service connected to the story. The clips should be no longer than a full scene or 2-3 minutes…
-
A small group or ministry in our church is hosting the movie, do we still need a license?
Any showing outside of a private home requires that a license must be obtained regardless of the number of people attending the event. If your showing is not connected to a church, the standard license is required, regardless of the size of the expected audience.
-
I want to show a movie outside the United States, does this license cover other countries?

Ways to use a Movie Night to raise funds for ministry:
Our film was created to open hearts to the miraculous work of God in our lives for how he created each of us with a hope and a purpose. You may use a Movie Night to help raise funds for your ministry through many creative means. 1. Offer free admission, but sell concession tickets for drinks, popcorn, candy etc. 2.If you need to ticket the event because of seating issues, list a “suggested donation” on the ticket (remember, you cannot require an admission price). 3.Collect a freewill offering or leave baskets at the doors to collect gifts. People are accustomed to paying to see a film, so giving a donation to cover costs would not be unusual. 4.Ask a local business to sponsor the event, give them placement on your promotional materials and do a short sponsorship “commercial” to thank them prior to showing the film. 5.You can also sell DVDs, Devotional Book and Children’s Book at the event, and keep all sales proceeds above the wholesale cost. You can add them to your cart at check out.
